Weekly Ramble #153

Reaching 35,000 Twitter followers is a hell of a milestone. To have that many people compelled to follow my efforts on a strange word party based platform carries a feeling that perhaps I have made it to some extent.

My secret is probably to never feel fully content and to always chase more. Good results foster even better results and on a platform like Twitter all you need is a little growth to tell you things are good and suddenly that growth can explode. It hasn’t been an easy journey and time has been the governing factor because there are no easy or quick fixes for me. People do often ask how but I would more look to why for the answer and that is because I never gave up.

Those who do keep going in creativity find rewards for their craft and in the social media world they also find others to stand beside. My following on here and across the platforms is heavily populated by fellow creatives who I’ll never consider my competition but my team mates. All of this is driven by a state of mind and a thinking that resonates with that attitude. Social media does have many pitfalls bit is also one hell of a beacon for many including me.

Just what is that beacon broadcasting? Hope, for those who can see within.

To those who do follow me on Twitter, over 35,000 of you, thank you.

Weekly Ramble #135

January is a long month. This is handy because it is also a busy month and in between outside of non writing things and writing things, I’ve got a lot of things done, but there’s still a way to go.

The truth is, I am always doing something, I’m like that bunny with the batteries, I just keep going and that’s because there is always something to achieve on this journey. It might be a carousel in some aspects but the ride becomes all the more rewarding as it spins while also going up and down. Twitter appears to be growing stronger and stronger by the day. Tonight I will be a guest on an indie book podcast talking about my efforts which in very recent times have become the best ever on the platform. You’ll be hearing more about that soon.

Time has been my friend on this path and whether it is the nine year anniversary of being on Twitter which I just crossed to the many years I have held onto this writing dream. Things do get better for those who do keep moving forward eventually. New content and even old content serves as a pillar that can hold your presence up online. Like I always say, just got to keep going.

Literary fiction, headhopping, writing “rules”, and self expression

Re-blogging some important words of passion by Brooklynn Dean. Be open minded about art – I wish more writers spoke this way…

BRAIN BARF by Brooklynn

As I’m writing Deification’s sequel, I’m fully aware of my “head-hopping”, but here’s the thing— I like it.

I write omniscient third-person narratives which means they see everything everyone is doing in a scene. Why shouldn’t they also see what everyone in the scene is feeling? This is how I write. I’m not changing it. It makes sense to me (even as someone with a BA in English), and writing is art. It shouldn’t be bound by what others expect to deem “correct”. It should come from the artists exactly as it’s meant to. If that style isn’t for you, then don’t pick up books written in it. But don’t be shitty and act superior.

Literary fiction explores characters and their minds, and I’m not going to neglect a character and his thoughts and feelings simply because I’ve just described his scene-partner’s thoughts and feelings. This is how a conversation…

Why I write…

Many of us create to beat the blues,

So don’t blame me for the two star reviews.

Something I might have made way back when,

Are possibly words I’ve moved on from since then.

Although it may still be a piece of me,

Publishing it to the world set it free.

There will be a thousand days of ‘thinking it through’,

But that writing gave me something to do.

My stuff may never be your cup of tea,

But I wrote it for me, not for you…

Yeah, it might feel a little passive aggressive but don’t judge, it’s not aimed at anyone in particular. I found this in my notes while having a clear out of half written notepads so I thought I would share it. I thought I had already put it up on here but couldn’t find the post anywhere… It captures a certain mood most creatives go through after releasing their work into the world.
